Have to say last nights gig was a stormer with a highly appreciative audience that included Mike Mills from REM!Yet another gig promoted by Martin Egan that was a success in every respect for the musicians. We couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere. Much thanks and respect is due to the Maeman.
I thoroughly enjoyed being on the stage and it was an absolute pleasure playing with Robin who incidentally had to catch a plane to Edinburough this morning at 5:30am! . It was the first outing of one of the new songs "Blossoming" and the feedback I got from everyone was great but if you missed last night you'll just have to come to the next gig and make up your own minds! At the last minute another singer/songwriter Dawn Kenny was drafted in to play and start off the night. I've seen Dawn before in Whelan's playing on the same bill as kila (a previous maeman.com promotion) and last night she was in top form.Daragh and Myles (Blotooth) went down well too and had some cool and unusual chord changes to compliment their distinctive vocals. And of course Ken Stringfellow was fabulous and said it was the most enjoyable gig he had done for a while and I have to agree with him.The gig finished with everyone "snuggling", clapping (unusually in time with the music!) and singing to an old Beach Boys tune - you know the one..God only knows what I'd do without you...,then finally Ken gave us a soulful version of the classic "Moonriver".All in all a superb night. And so,the next gig.....
Love Woody

Much thanks is due to Colm Quearney who has given much of his time and talent in the studio and who has added some real punch to the recordings. You're a real pleasure to work with Colm! His own album "The world is not round" is well worth checking out along with his website www.colmquearney.com

The next gig in Whelan's is on the 27th of March 2002. It's a triple headliner with two of the members of an up and coming irish band called "Blotooth", Ken Stringfellow from the well known Seattle band "The Posies" and currently playing piano and guitar with R.E.M(with whom along with fellow Posy Jon Auer I did my first gig in Whelan's), and of course my good self. I'm planning to play with Robin Hurt (no relation to John!!) a shithot guitarist from Scotland now living and working in Dublin who is responsible for much of the guitar work on the recordings as well as all the guitar work on "Silverwrists" Naimee Colemans debut album on Sony. Checkout www.theposies.com and www.blotooth.com for biog's etc. It should be a busy night so get there early to catch all the action! Love Woody.
